Curiouser and Curiouser...

I just handed in my Final Major Project at uni; I can't actually believe how quickly time has flow! For my specialism I chose written and decided to undertake a project I was passionate about so I made a little vintage magazine.

Inspired by seeing mothers and daughters wandering around vintage fairs (and perhaps my own relationship with my ma), I wanted to create a nostalgic, ladylike and creative publication. Called Curiouser, this online zine focuses on the nostalgic past-times and references typical of vintage lifestyle. This publication aims to be an inspiring and eclectic source of all things vintage for the individual.

I was lucky to meet such great people along the way who offered to contribute and really helped to give me the confidence to create a mini magazine. I really want to thank Bridie Wilkinson, Emma StarHayley PowellJo Aston, Asos Marketplace,Ballad OfFor the Love of Vintage,Julia Ward Studios, The Marvellous Tea Dance CompanyVintage TweeRosebud and Slave  who, in their own way, have all helped make Curiouser a success.

From The Dim And The Gloom She Came..

Sorry for my complete lack of blogging *sighhh* my final year at Uni has been pretty intense *double sighh*. I'm currently working on my Final Major Project and have some very exciting bits n bobs to share VERY soon!

In the meantime here's a fashion film I made last year with Nicole Allan, inspired by the work of David Koma.

Wild Child

To try and justify my 4 months break from uni, I undertook a little photoshoot with some of my friends from home. The wonderful Gemmi Keir took the photos, while mes amis Jo Ashton modelled. We were lucky that the lighting was perfect and left us with images which didn't need editing! Enjoy..

Forever Young

Some vintage pics I found of my mum, j'adore the fashions and interiors. I find it really interesting to see what she wore then and how I would wear these styles now. As a teenage bride (my mum married at 16!) and with no money she wore a typical 60's style dress with belle sleeves. I love the fact she marched to the beat out her own drum and wore something she was comfortable in, I definitely hope to do the same on my wedding day!

California Dreaming

A couple of illustrations I created inspired by the imagery in 60's Vogues juxtaposed with a kaldescope of bright colour.

I developed this idea further, taking the illustrative colour away and instead using vintage fabric as the background to enhance the drawings.

THE CUT

My latest project for uni, is to create a fashion film for London designer David Koma, using moving image as a promotional tool to increase brand awareness.
The starting point for this research was his recent A/W 2011 catwalk collection, from looking at his use of shape and that face.

This dress in particular reminided me of Andy Warhol's 'Chealsea Girls' film, which really became the basis of our film idea. Instead of trying to represent the clothes in an obvious way, we felt it would be interesting to prsent the visuals of David Komas ethos through the projection of shape.
